Comments
If someone leaves a comment, we collect data from the comment form, including your IP address, and browser information. This is standard information to help filter spam.
The system generates an anonymized string (hash) from the email address you use. This hash can be sent to Gravatar to check whether the email address is registered there. For Gravatar privacy policies, please visit https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment appears, your Gravatar profile photo will also appear next to the comment.
Media
Uploading an image? Don’t just grab one that still has location data (EXIF GPS) attached. Others can download and view the location information from the image.
Cookies
Leave a comment and you’ll have the option to save your name, email address, and website address in a cookie. This saves you the hassle of having to re-enter the settings when you comment again. This cookie lasts for one year.
When you open the login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It’s empty no personal data and disappears once the browser is closed.
Once logged in, several cookies are stored that store your login information and display settings. The login cookie lasts two days, and the display settings last a year. Check “Remember Me” and the login cookie lasts two weeks. Log out, and the login cookie is deleted.
Edit or publish an article, and an additional cookie appears in your browser. It contains only the post ID of the article you just edited, no personal data. After one day, it disappears.
Content from Other Sites
Sometimes articles here include external content videos, images, or other articles. This kind of content works exactly as if you were viewing it directly on the original site.
So, these external sites can collect data, send cookies, insert third-party trackers, or monitor your interactions. This is especially true if you have an account and are logged in.
Data Sharing
Someone asked for a password reset? Your IP address is included in the reset email.
Data Storage
Comments and their metadata are stored continuously. So if there are any follow-up comments, the system recognizes them immediately and doesn’t require a moderation queue.
For those who register an account, we also store your profile data. All users can view, edit, or delete it, except for the username. Site admins can also access and edit it.
Your Data Rights
Do you have an account or have you commented here? You can request an export of all the personal data we store. You can also request a complete deletion. However, there are exceptions for data that we must retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
Where Is Your Data Sent?
Guest comments will go through an automatic spam filter.
